A morning tea to remember

Sandhurst Melbourne member morning tea

On May 10th, a very community minded Sandhurst Club resident member Val Smith hosted a morning tea in support of the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea. It was attended by quite a few neighbouring members and friends, totalling 54 people in Val’s house!

Val and her two daughters went to local businesses who were incredibly generous in their sponsorship of prizes for raffles and a silent auction. There were over $3,000 in prizes as well as a cake and sweets stall which guests were able to purchase from. A small entry fee was charged and a number of games were played to raise further funds.

“We provided a delicious morning tea and I’m pretty confident in saying everyone thoroughly enjoyed the morning. We raised $5,111 in total. Our goal was $500 so we blew that out of the water!”, said Val.

The event also had an ambassador, who took guests on her journey and a number of cancer survivors attended. As a survivor herself, Val had great motivation to put this event on.

At the end of our morning tea, there were some cakes, slices and goodies left over so Val posted on the Residents Facebook page to come along and buy and they did! “This is such an amazing community and I’m very proud to be part of it. Needless to say we will do it again next year!”, said Val.

Congratulations on a hugely successful event to everyone involved!
