Major works are well underway to upgrade Thompsons Road in Melbourne’s south east.
New bridge taking shape
We’ve now completed laying the bridge foundations – a huge milestone for the project – after drilling multiple holes of up to 25 metres deep to provide a stable base for the new bridge.
We’re about to start lifting and placing the bridge beams over the railway line. These beams are the main structure that will help create the new bridge.
We’ll complete these works in stages:
1. first seven beams lifted and placed over the railway line from 25–27 January 2018 between 9pm and 5am each night, with preparation works starting from 7pm.
2. last 14 beams lifted and placed on the west and east sides of the bridge during the day from 30 January – 2 February 2018 between 7am–6pm .
Public transport changes
To safely complete these works, buses will replace trains from 8pm each night until the last service from 25–27 January between Dandenong Station and Cranbourne Station. For more information, visit PTV
Dates are subject to change and other planned or unplanned works may also happen during this period.
During the beam installation, the speed limit on Thompsons Road will be 40 km/h. During the night works, one lane will be open between Lonsdale Crescent and Merinda Park Boulevard. Please allow extra travel time.
Access to Merinda Park Boulevard and the Merinda Park Station car park from Thompson Road will be closed. We suggest using the alternative route via Evans Road north to Merinda Park Boulevard. Pedestrian access to the train station will be unaffected.
There is still access to shops during works so be sure to support your community and shop locally.
